Q: What information is needed to encode the cards?
1.) What type of magnetic stripe should be used? A: LoCo or HiCo
2.) What track should the data be encoded on? A: 1, 2 and/or 3
3.) What data needs to be encoded? A: This data is what lets your POS system tell one card from another. It can be a random set of numbers or any customer information. If there are no guidelines by your POS provider, we can generate this information for a small fee.
*All of this information can be received from your POS provider. Go to Top

Q: What is the difference between Loco and HiCo?
A: LoCo is moderately resistant to data erasure and is ideal for tickets, membership cards, and general use. HiCo has a greater level of resistance to loss of data, which makes it ideal for higher security applications such s credit cards and ID cards. Go to Top

Q: What is Coercivity?
A: It is a measure of the tape's ability to resist erasure of data by external magnetic influences. Go to Top

Q: What is a POS provider?
A: The provider of your Point of Sale system. Go to Top

Q: My POS provider says that I can only use their cards. Is this true?
A: No. POS providers want you to use their cards so they can make more money, however they often charge much more per card. Go to Top

Q: Can I preload my cards with a certain denomination?
A: You can, but that will have to be done by you before the card is purchased. The cards will arrive with no amount preloaded on the card, meaning they have no monetary value when you get them. Only the information to use the card (to identify one card from another) can be encoded by us. Go to Top

Q: Will there be a charge for changing denominations (for example, I want $25 and $50 cards)
A: The encoding charge will remain the same because we do not put a denomination amount on the card. There will be an additional charge if the artwork for your cards changes (for example, you want the cards to say $25 and $50 and you plan on loading them with that amount before they are purchased). Go to Top

Q: How do I activate/load my gift cards?
A: This question can be answered by your POS provider. They should tell you how to activate and use your cards once you have received them. Go to Top

Q: Are my gift cards reloadable?
A: All of our gift cards can be reloaded, meaning if a customer wants to add more money to the card after it has been used, he/she can. This should be double checked with your POS provider. Go to Top

Q: I am currently using gift cards by my POS provider. Is there a way I can ensure that your gift cards will work the same way?
A: Yes. If you send us one of your current gift cards, we can check the data that is encoded to ensure an exact match with our gift cards. Go to Top

Q: What benefits do gift cards offer over paper gift certificates?
A: Gift certificates are easily tampered with, can represent low quality to some consumers and are difficult to track. Gift cards offer great benefits to your customers: they are easy to carry in a wallet or purse, and they are much higher quality than gift certificates, making them easy to give as gifts. They also offer great benefits to you: they represent your business as professional and high-quality, it’s great advertising when people give them as gifts, they’re inexpensive, and they’re easy to maintain. Go to Top

Q: What if I do not have a POS machine?
A: We recommend printing a set amount on the cards and using the same method you would use to track gift certificates. We can include a PIN number on the back of the card covered with a scratch off label. When the card is purchased for the given amount, you can scratch off the label on the back to reveal the PIN number, showing that the card has been paid for. Then you can keep a log for each card’s PIN number. When you get a POS machine, you can then update your cards to use the magnetic stripe. Go to Top
