Pressure sensitive magnetic stripes

Scratch Off Systems, Inc. now offers pressure sensitive magnetic stripes in Low Coercivity (LoCo) or High Coercivity (HiCo) formats with the stripes either 3/8" and 1/2" width. These magnetic stripes are manufactured to ISO specifications and are supplied on 14" OD rolls with 6,000 - 8,000 labels per roll. They can be easily applied using your current labeling equipment. An encoder will be needed to encode the data onto the magnetic stripe.

There are 3 tracks on a magnetic stripe. Track 2 is a numeric track allowing up to 45 characters and is used for phone cards. LoCo is at 300 Oerstead which is less expensive and is used for prepaid phone cards and loyalty cards. HiCo is at 2750 Oerstead, which allows many swipes, can be rewritten, and has a stronger magnetic field of resistance is mainly used for debit and credit cards.

Magnetic stripes can be used with many different product applications. The phone card industry has a unique use for magnetic stripes. Each phone card with a magnetic stripe enables point of sale activation's (POSA), which reduces theft and inventory costs for the card issuer, distributor and retailer. Card's are shipped inactive and are not activated until they are sold at the retailer's location by swipping the card through a POS terminal. Once activated, the retailer is charged for the sold card and the distributor is notified of the retailers inventory status.
